Not every engagement session goes exactly as planned. Sometimes schedules are tight. Sometimes the clouds roll in. And sometimes, the wind has other ideas. But as this beautiful couple proved, a little imperfect weather is no match for real love. This beach engagement session in cloudy weather turned out to be one of my absolute favorites — and the results speak for themselves.

This couple had very limited availability when it came to scheduling. Rescheduling simply wasn’t an option. So instead of waiting for a perfect sunny day, we showed up, embraced the moody skies, and made it work. And honestly? I think we won.

Here’s a little secret — overcast and cloudy skies act like a giant natural softbox. The light is even, soft, and flattering. There are no harsh shadows or squinting eyes. Additionally, the moodier atmosphere adds a certain depth and emotion to images that a bright, sunny day sometimes can’t replicate.
The wind? Well, that just added movement and life to every single frame. You can see it in her hair, in the sea oats swaying behind them, and in the way they leaned into each other. It felt real. Because it was.

Engagement sessions are about so much more than just getting pretty pictures. Of course, the photos are a wonderful bonus — especially for a wedding website! But the real purpose is connection.
It’s about getting comfortable in front of the camera. It’s about learning how to move together, how to laugh naturally, and how to forget that someone is pointing a lens at you. Furthermore, it’s about getting to know your photographer before the big day.
By the time your wedding arrives, you’ll already feel at ease. That comfort shows up in every single image.

After this gorgeous cloudy weather engagement session, these two will go on to celebrate their wedding at Cavalier. It’s the perfect next chapter for a couple who clearly knows how to embrace every moment — rain, wind, and all. The connection and ease they built on that breezy beach will be carried right through to every moment of their wedding day. That’s exactly why I love this process so much.

Because of the weather, the beach was completely empty. Just us, the sea oats, the sand dunes, and this incredibly sweet couple. There was no crowd to navigate. No strangers walking through the background. Just open space and genuine moments.
They were playful. They were romantic. They laughed, they kissed, they spun around in the wind. Most importantly, they focused entirely on each other — and that’s exactly what makes engagement photos truly special.

Typically, I do reschedule sessions when the weather turns. However, sometimes life doesn’t allow for that — and this session is a perfect reminder that beautiful things can happen when you roll with it.
If you’re an engaged couple worried about weather on your session day, take a deep breath. Trust the process. Trust your photographer. And trust that your love will shine through no matter what the forecast says.
These two did exactly that — and every single image is absolutely breathtaking because of it.
