I first met Sonya back in 2013 when I photographed her older sister’s wedding. Flash forward 4 years later and she emailed me about photographing her own wedding! I loved working with their family so of course I was excited when she contacted me.
Ryan met Sonya online. Her dating profile came across his phone screen first. He “liked” her and then his dating profile came across my phone screen and she “liked” him back. This was totally out of the norm for Sonya, but from his profile, he seemed like someone she wanted to get to know. So she took a chance and messaged him first. Their connection came naturally and they talked for hours on end for the next nine days. After that nine days, they decided to meet up at the mall. They walked around, played with a puppy at the pet store and got lunch. When they were about to say goodbye, he finally built up the courage to take her hand in his. Soon after he met her parents and everyone fell in love with this polite country boy from a small town in Kansas. From then on, they were inseparable. Almost a year later, Ryan proposed!
In Sonya’s words, “I knew it was coming, but I just wasn’t sure when or where it would happen. I found out later that he had asked for my Dad’s permission and ordered the ring a month earlier. It took a month for the ring to be made, so the day after he picked the ring up, he took me to the aquarium. We spent several hours there and once we finished looking at all the animals, we decided to walk the trails outside. We had only made it a bit of the way when we stopped to look at a trail sign to see where we were. At that moment, he took out a little Pandora bag and told me he had a present for me. I opened it up and found a heart shaped locket charm that opened to reveal a little engagement ring. After I opened it, he knelt down, took out the real ring box and asked me to marry him, with no one around but the two of us. Once again, I of course said yes, without any hesitation. Someone like Ryan only comes along once in a lifetime and I wasn’t about to miss my opportunity!”
They are the sweetest couple and I enjoyed working with them at their engagement session. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and I was obsessed with the blooms! Time has flown by and they are getting married this weekend! I can’t wait to celebrate with them!
